ImpactAir: The Aviation Advantage for Communities gives economic developers, airport executives/managers, elected officials, and industry stakeholders a resource to explore.
I stood before the city council, answering question after question about the value of the airport in their community. The only information council members had about the facility came from residents who complained about the noise. Most of those who complained had never used the airport.
After presenting my report and explaining the airport’s economic value, I explained how advancements in aviation and transportation could improve community access and attract investment and workforce. As I spoke, council members started to recognize their airport’s tremendous value and understand the link between the airport and economic development.
Like many, many other communities, these elected officials had been overlooking an invisible asset – an airport that can be an economic engine for the community and that, when actively promoted, can lead to double or triple the economic growth of similar-sized communities that do not promote their airport.
