John Marshall has been with Golden Shovel Agency since January 2011, playing a pivotal role in shaping the company's growth. Initially hired to lead and develop the sales and new business development department, John has held various leadership positions, including VP of Sales and President, and currently serves as the Business Development Partner. With 25 years of experience in the economic development industry, John brings a wealth of knowledge in business recruitment, workforce development, and site selector engagement.

John’s extensive involvement in economic development extends beyond his role at Golden Shovel. He has been instrumental in recruiting key projects, such as the Iron Creek Inn & Suites to Upton, Wyoming, as President of the Upton Economic Development Board. His expertise in business and workforce recruitment marketing, as well as his active engagement with site selectors, has led to numerous successful campaigns that have positively impacted communities.

A significant aspect of John’s contributions to the industry is his commitment to professional development, as evidenced by his wide array of certifications and memberships in key economic development organizations. He holds prestigious financial planning designations (CLU, CHFC, CASL) and securities certifications (6, 63, 7, 66). These qualifications enhance his ability to approach economic development from a comprehensive, strategic perspective. Furthermore, his membership in industry-leading organizations such as WEDA, IEDC, SEDC, MAEDC, and NREDA underscores his dedication to staying at the forefront of economic development trends and best practices.

In addition to his professional qualifications, John is actively involved in his community, serving as the President of the Upton Economic Development Board, and has led numerous strategic planning initiatives that resulted in the recruitment of new businesses and infrastructure development. His passion for community growth and development is reflected not only in his work but in his ongoing efforts to improve his hometown and broader industry networks.

Outside of work, John enjoys traveling, especially to beach destinations, and has a deep love for hunting and fishing, reflecting his well-rounded approach to both his personal and professional life.
