Oregon Trail Electric Coop Case Study

Golden Shovel Creates Regional Economic Development Portal with Integrated Tools for Oregon Electric Cooperative

The communities served by Oregon Trail Electric Cooperative did not have a comprehensive economic development portal featuring incentives, resources, real estate tools and demographic data. This lack of readily available information was a hindrance to communities  looking to recruit new businesses to the area, or to support the many businesses calling Eastern Oregon home.

Solution

OTEC took this challenge and has aggressively worked to address it by hiring Golden Shovel Agency to create an economic development portal, containing regional information and economic development tools. In addition, OTEC has provided all of the communities within Baker, Grant, Harney and Union counties the opportunity to have their own website created by Golden Shovel. These microsites have access to the same tools as the regional economic development website, with content and images unique to that individual community.

To bring even greater attention to the regional assets of Eastern Oregon, OTEC hired Golden Shovel to create several virtual reality videos using 360 Technology. These immersive videos transport the viewer to the hills, mountains and towns of Eastern Oregon, making it possible to virtually visit the area and to experience its beauty.

Benefit

Creation of a regional economic development portal that can be used by economic development professionals, site selectors, businesses and residents to advance economic development in the region.

Outcome

Golden Shovel successfully launched the regional economic development website with monthly content published on the site and on social media.

Created several virtual reality videos to feature the beauty and opportunity found within Eastern Oregon. These videos are now being used by regional economic developers and viewed by site selectors and business executives.

Golden Shovel is working with local communities to create customized micro sites that will go live throughout 2020.
