Economic Development Recertification Sought For Beatrice
Friday, October 24, 2014
Economic development officials are working toward renewing the City of Beatrice as a Certified Economic Development Community in Nebraska.
Executive Director of NGage, Glennis McClure says an application for recertification was sent to the Nebraska Department of Economic Development last month, and is still under review.
The eight-page application covers local economic development efforts with links to other services. McClure praised the role of the city and an economic development consulting firm as part of the recertification process.
The report includes job gains and losses over recent years.
The report also includes a count of new small businesses along with expansions. There were 49 new businesses and nine expansions.
Beatrice City Councilman Ted Fairbanks says it’s important for the report to acknowledge both the positives and negatives when it comes to the number of jobs.
McClure says NGage is trying to be a resource along with Nebraska Workforce Development for workers who lost jobs recently when Store Kraft Manufacturing closed. That includes information sent to site selection companies about available buildings in the Beatrice area and workers. It also includes contact with other local manufacturers about available labor.
