November CEO Update: Supporting Economic Development in Urban Communities
Wednesday, November 04, 2015
October was quite a month for me. It began with getting a promotion to CEO followed by a week in Anchorage for the IEDC conference and sometime after that moving my family from Minnesota back to the Santa Cruz mountains.
I am proud to announce my promotion to CEO. I had been working towards this goal since we founded Golden Shovel six years ago. I am honored and blessed to be working with such a wonderful and supportive team and I see many exciting things ahead for Golden Shovel and our clients.
Anchorage, AK was the host city for the International Economic Development Council’s annual conference. Golden Shovel exhibited a booth and we met so many wonderful new people as well as connected with our clients and friends. There were many excellent presenters on topics that spanned the economic development industry. I participated on a panel for the “Constructive Criticisms: Websites under a microscope” session where the panelists critiqued four different websites live. Thank you to Dariel at DCI for moderating the presentation.
Site Selection Magazine
Golden Shovel officially announced our new partnership with Site Selection Magazine. As a result of our partnership, all Golden Shovel clients have access to five articles a week from Site Selection Magazine that they can publish on their websites. We had a webinar at the end of October that included an overview and demo. Please contact email@example.com to get a recording of the webinar and to opt-in to this exciting new service at no additional charge.
Golden Shovel in Urban Markets
In October, we launched the Gateway Cities Council of Governments website. The COG represents over 2 million people in 28 cities in Southeast Los Angeles including LA County and the port of Long Beach. Since Golden Shovel’s inception we have been “Champions of Greater America” with all of our tools and services designed to empower rural and mid-sized communities. We have found that our same tools and services greatly support urban areas and the Gateway Cities COG is a perfect example. This project also integrates GIS Planning’s Zoom Prospector tool and Intelligence Components into it, making a powerful example of our combined technologies. Check it out at http://www.gatewaycog.org/.
We have a busy month ahead with new website launches in Texas, California, Nebraska and South Dakota. Keep an eye out for John Marshall at the Southern Economic Development Council’s “Young Professionals Meet the Consultants” conference down in Dallas the first week of November. And lastly, have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
