April 2015

It’s official.  Spring is here and it’s time for growth. That is always good news for economic development and our friends across the country are seeing activity warm up. The Golden Shovel team saw the same as we kicked off new projects in California, North Dakota and Wisconsin. Here is what we have been up to:

New Agency Services

Since Golden Shovel's inception we have been laser focused on providing two services better than anyone: Building economic development websites and keeping them current and effective. We have accomplished this goal, but as we have grown there has been a strong demand for complementary services from the utilities and communities we are partnered with.

In response we are expanding our capabilities by formally offering expanded agency services. Our new agency services are organized in four areas: Strategy, Copywriting, Graphic Design and Advertising. These services will address the needs of our clients and brings together decades of experience our team has with creative firms. We will be revealing much more as these services get integrated, but feel free to contact John Marshall if you want the inside scoop.

New Sites Launched!

We had multiple new exciting website launches in March. Hillsboro Economic Development Corporation launched their new website in North Dakota with a goal of attracting new business, attracting workforce and to support local businesses. Momentum West, a 10 county regional group in western wisconsin, publicly launched their new website for attracting business to the region. Dunn County Economic Development Corporation, one of the counties in the Momentum West region also launched, sharing information directly with the regional presence. Please check them out!

Expert Webinars

The webinar, “How communities can position themselves without using traditional incentives” was presented by Justin Erickson, Principal at Community Venture Network, which identified businesses with relocation, expansion or partnership opportunities for economic development organizations. It was an excellent presentation and highlighted strategies for rural organizations to consider for attracting businesses outside of traditional site selectors. If you are interested in the slides from that presentation, contact Victor PerezKeep an eye out for information regarding our April webinar!

Upcoming Conferences

If you haven’t signed up yet, the Mid America Economic Development Council is having their Best Practices Conference May 13-15 in Omaha and is excellent for all economic developers in the midwest. Learn more on their website Mid-America Economic Development Council. I will look forward to seeing you there!

So let the great dethaw of 2015 begin!  I’ll be back to report on the warmer side of April.
