City leaders work with Corridor to address housing needs

The Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation has heard from business leaders who are concerned about the cost and availability of homes for the area's workforce.
And, Corridor officials hope the launch of the Iowa Lakes Corridor Housing Fund will be a step in addressing their concerns. The fund will assist developers who create housing or upgrade existing homes. The fund may be used for construction of single-family homes, apartments and condominiums, or acquisition and rehabilitation of existing single-family homes or multi-family rentals, according to the Corridor.
CEO Kiley Miller, CEO of the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation, called the fund "one step on the path to answering" housing concerns. He also said a successful effort will ensure sustained economic growth in the area.
"The importance of housing in Milford -- I know it's my top priority right now," Milford Mayor Bill Reinsbach said. "I've already talked to some developers about their interest in possibly doing some affordable housing down here. LeAnn (Houge) the city administrator and I have met briefly with Polaris, discussed some options and some action items to move forward on. We're waiting for a few of those things to make it all happen -- we're looking at land options and several other things. It's extremely important for the growth of Milford, for Polaris and any other businesses coming in."
