July 2014

Greetings friends,

It seems like the fourth of July was just yesterday and yet we are already into the last week of the month. They say time flies when you’re having fun, and summer brings plenty of that, but fun mixed with a fast moving business makes time fly by in a wink.

I just returned from the National Rural EDA conference in Cleveland, OH where they celebrated 25 years of supporting rural economic developers. It was an excellent conference that highlighted important new trends in the industry including agri-tourism, water issues and rural regionalism. Congratulations to Linda Salmonson, manager of economic development for East River Electric for receiving the NREDA Rural Economic Development Leadership Award. Check out the conference next year in Denver, CO.

John Marshall and myself will be attending the SEDC conference in Memphis, TN August 3-8. We hope to see you there! If you miss us at that conference, keep an eye out for John at the NADO conference in Denver at the end of August. We are looking forward to seeing our many friends in the South and meeting many more.

At the end of June the Greater Dubuque Development Corporation launched their new website. We are very proud to be partners with such a talented economic development team that pushed us to expand many of our economic development tools into new areas and incorporate new functionality. Check it out at Greater Dubuque Development Corporation!

Claudia Viek, Executive Director for the California Association of Micro Enterprise Opportunity was the guest presenter for our expert webinar series in July. She highlighted the importance of micro businesses as a focus for job creation, especially in rural communities. Contact us to receive a recording of the presentation.

The new additions to the Economic Gateway have been very well received by our clients and we are quickly implementing them across many of the sites. Ask your GateKeeper representative for more details.

Since it’ll probably be August by the time I finish writing this update I’m going to get back to work. I’ll see you in Memphis, or if not, on LinkedIn! We’re not slowing down anytime soon.

Cheers,

Aaron Brossoit

Chief Operating Officer
