McALLEN — Economic links between the Rio Grande Valley and the Far East increased as the first quarter of 2014 closed.

Representatives from the McAllen Economic Development Corp. traveled to South Korea between March 29 and April 3, meeting with South Korean business leaders and signing an economic memorandum with Daejeon City.

Keith Patridge, president and CEO of the McAllen EDC, said that a principal ambition of the trip was to fuel mutually beneficial economic development for both the Valley and South Korea. In addition to facilitating what he called an economic “two-way street,” Patridge said that he hopes the trip will contribute to the development of technology in South Texas as well as the founding of jobs and careers in the Valley.
